Thrust

Thrust Bearings

Thrust Bearings can be fitted as an option over the standard Phosphor Bronze washers to all UKPK, Urban and Squeak Scales made in hard materials from the VP Creations web store, We are currently working on the soft material options at the moment and those sales pages will be updated when we are able to supply the service.

How to install

Below we will give a brief tutorial on how to install your thrust bearings, please not that over tightening the pivot screw as it will most likely damage the bearings,

Prepare your Scales by following these simple instructions,

  • First insert the D Pins into the Show Scale side and lay the scales face side down,
  • Add a small amount of oil to the inside of the Bearing recesses to hold the washers in position for the following steps,
  • Insert the 2 Phosphor Bronze washers into the Bearing recesses
  • Attach the back spacer / spring,
  • Insert the bottom Pin,
  • Insert one thrust bearing over the pivot D Pin with the open side of the bearing cage facing the Scale

  • Add the Blade to the pivot D Pin,
  • Attach the 2nd thrust bearing to the Pivot D Pin with the open side of the bearing cage facing upwards,
  • Carefully attach the 2nd Scale by lining up the bottom pin first,
  • Insert a screw into the bottom position to line up the holes but do not tighten right down,
  • Insert the final 2 Screws but again do not tighten right down,

Finish the assembly and test

You should now have your knife back together with just a few steps left,

  • Inspect the Fitment to make sure all the screw holes have lined up,
  • Now you can attach your pocket clip and tighten both bottom screws,
  • Tighten the pivot screw till it just starts to bite but do not over tighten,
  • open and close the knife 4 or five times and you should notice the action gets looser,

At this point you can tighten the pivot screw a little more (1/8th turn) and repeat the previous action, as you tighten the pivot the bearings are forming there own grooves and seating into the Phosphor Bronze washers so don't over tighten the pivot screw, just repeat the previous operations until the tightness and action is as required,

You can check the tightness of the screw periodically and add a little extra loob if needed, Thread lock is not necessary however if you do use it please don't over do it.
